Tribute

Jack Matt Jr. was born September 6th, 1935 the eldest child of five children of Jack Matt Sr. and Evelyn Mc Bride. He was born in Ville Platte Louisiana and went to High School in Lecompte where he was raised on the farm working with his dad.  Jack worked for a time in Lecompte truck farming, which he still loved to do in his later years with a large garden. Then in the late ’60s with the encouragement of his lifelong friend Walter Vallee he came to Texas.  He worked for Brown-Root on shutdowns with Walter as a pipe fitter.  Jack would put away a little money from these jobs to try and open a car lot, which he finally made happen after failing twice before.  Dependable Used Cars was born in 1972 when Jack and Glenda finally made it go for good. The car business was one that fit Jack well and grew through the years. Then in the 80’s he sold Dependable Used Cars and came out on Highway 90 to Ten Acres where he was part of a Used Auto Parts and Cars business for many more years.

Jack was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for the guys at the shop on Saturdays; we at Ten Acres ate many a good meals on those Saturdays. It was too many dishes served to list. But at the family reunions which he loved to attend, his number one dish was hot Tamales. I believe his hot Tamales were the reason many of our family members would show up early at those family reunions.

Jack also loved going to Vegas before Louisiana opened their Casino’s. I can remember him taking almost all of his family members to Vegas that wanted to go. Jack for many years enjoyed going to Vegas for Super Bowl weekend with anyone that wanted to go. He would say that Vegas was the quickest place to go to forget about the car business for a few days. But the thing that he really enjoyed and many people remember him for is his crawfish boils. It did not matter if it was at home for the family or at Ten Acres on a Saturday night he worked to cook them to perfection.

Jack was also known by many for his quick wit and stubborn ways. He had no given middle name by his parents but those of us that knew him well had one for him it started with A and ended in SS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Dolores Johnson, his brother Roland Matt, his two sons David and Patrick Matt, and his granddaughter Amy Gonzales.
He is leaves behind to cherish his loving memory, his wife of 56 years Glenda Sue Matt, and his children, Eric Matt, Mary Nelson, John Matt, Margaret Matt, Jacques Matt, Charlie Matt, Eva Sevier, and Krystal Zenthoefer. 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

We love you Jack and you will be missed by many.
