Joe Avalos, 77, of Highlands, Texas passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019. He was born on January 21, 1942 in Houston, Texas to Florenzo Avalos and Josephine Ybarra Avalos. Joe worked as a volunteer Firefighter in Highlands and as a Constable for Harris County, Precinct 3 throughout the years. He was a member of the Highlands Masonic Lodge #231 and was on the safety committee for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He was a fan of the Houston Rockets, Texans and Astros. Joe was very well known and made sure to hold a conversation with everyone. Affectionately known as Poppy by his grandchildren which he loved dearly. He touched the lives of many and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Crystal McDowell; parents, Florenzo and Josephine Avalos; and siblings, Jack, Theodora, Alex, Robert, Johnny, and Diana.
Joe is survived by his wife of 46 ½ years, Linda Avalos; son, Joey Avalos and wife Shawna; daughters, Myssi Rizzo and husband Joe, and Mandy Avalos; grandchildren, Blu Bunton, Anthony Avalos, Madden McDowell, Maui McDowell, and Krysta McDowell; siblings, Annie, Eva, Janie, Terri, Lupe, Rose, Stella, Lucy, Delia, Patsy, and Raymond.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 from 2:00pm – 3:00 pm at Sterling White Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 3:00pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sterling White Funeral Home, 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg Rd., Highlands, Texas 77562.
