John Winford Ellis

November 20, 1987 ~ March 2, 2023 (age 35) 35 Years Old

Tribute

John Ellis passed unexpectedly from a pulmonary embolism at the age of 35 at his home in Allen, TX.

He is survived and missed tremendously by his loving wife, Emily, and his parents, Ted and Trudy Woods as well as parents-in-law, Steve and Karen Johnson. Forever cherished and remembered by his sister and brother-in-law, Amanda and Charles Wood, and his brother, Austin Woods, his Nanny and Papa Winford and Peggy Pate, and Grandma Mary Beth Woods. John had countless cousins that will carry his memory in their hearts. His memory lives on with his niece and nephew, Madison and Charlie. He is preceded in death by his daddy, Ed Ellis.

John was born on November 20, 1987 in Baytown, TX and grew up in Crosby, TX. Later, he moved to McKinney, TX where he met his wife, Emily, at a bible study. They were married on March 30, 2019, and shared a home in Allen, TX that John completely remodeled. John was constantly adding to their home and making improvements. He was devoted to Emily and told her that he loved her every day. Their life together was filled with love and laughter.

John would have wanted the memory of him to be a joyful one. He was a strong believer in God and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a true example of what it was to live your life for Christ every day, trying to discern God’s will and listen to the leading of the Holy Spirit. He shared his testimony openly and wanted to point others to Jesus as well. John’s faith was evident in everything he said and did for others. He remembered to give God glory in everything.

John loved working as a general contractor and owning his own businesses, including 3N1 Remodeling, JJ’s Wholesale, and Affordable Quality Cabinets. He had an incredible amount of energy and was always working on multiple projects and remodels. He was always generous in his dealings with others, and tried to give people genuinely good deals to help them out. He had an excellent mind for business.

John loved coaching kids’ soccer and taught Sunday School for 2nd and 4th grade boys at Christ Fellowship for several years. He started a homeless ministry in Dallas. His compassionate spirit and sense of humor made him a great leader. He had a vibrant personality and made himself at home anywhere he went. He always had an encouraging word, look, or gesture for those that really needed it. His big hugs and huge smile were truly the best. Like father like son, his favorite pastimes were fishing where he shouldn’t be and spending time with his family.
