John L’s Life Sojourn

John L. Samuel, 73, was born to the proud parents of the late Dorietha Marie (Trahan) and the late Harry Lee Samuel on December 18, 1946 in Liberty, Texas.

John L. attended Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School during his formative years in Ames, Texas and later attended and graduated from Charles R. Drew High School in Crosby, Texas in 1964. He was joined in holy matrimony to Peggy Branch and to this union two daughters Tanya Lisa and Janine (Deenie) were born. Soon after, he joined the United States Army and served from 1964 to 1966. After his service in the military, he moved to Denver, Colorado and worked at Gates Rubber Company for nearly ten years and as a municipal taxi driver for several years, afterwards. He later married Melody Snyder and to this union two sons, John L. Jr. (Johnny) and Derrick were born. He later prepared himself to work as a technician in the boiler plant at the VA Hospital in Denver where he remained until he retired in 2016. He was married to Sharon Navarro and no children were born. He retired and relocated back to Texas in 2016 and was married to Marion Miller and from this union one daughter, Dorietha (Dorie) was born.

 John L. was also the proud father of John (Troy Hawkins) Samuel, Marlon (Noochie) Branch Yolanda L. Jefferson, Oriana Samuel, Angelina Clover Guggemos, and Michael B. Garren Jr.

John L. gave his heart to Christ and for that we are happy. He fought the good fight. He finished the race. He kept the faith.

John L.’s pastimes were keeping a well-manicured lawn, working with his hands and playing dominoes.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry Lee and Dorietha Marie Samuel, sisters, Katie Lynn Samuel, and Tanya Alisa Samuel, and grandchildren, Zainab Mansoor and Krushun A. Reed

He is survived by his loving wife, Marion Nina Samuel, six daughters, Tanya Lisa Samuel, Denver, CO; Janine S. Chenevert Baytown, TX; Yolanda Jefferson Little Rock, AR; Dorietha (Dorie) (D’Arcy), Houston, TX; Oriana Samuel Washinton, DC; and Angelina Guggermos (Russen)  Arlington, Massachusetts;  four sons, John (Troy Hawkins) Samuel Orange, TX; Marlon (Noochie) Branch Houston, TX; John L. Jr. (Johnny) and Derrick Samuel, both of Denver, CO; Brother, Don Samuel (Marilyn); Houston, TX; Two maternal aunts, Eleanor Melonson and Rose Mark, both of Ames, TX, thirty-one grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; and a host of  other relatives and friends.
