Tribute

Mrs. Maria Luvina Reyna-Sanchez went to be with the Lord on October 5, 2020. She was surrounded by the love of her daughters, at the time of her death in Houston, Texas.

Luvina is preceded in death by Parents, Mateo Reyna and Leandra De los Santos, and her two sons Ramiro and Raul.  Luvina is survived by her children, Mary Sanchez-Davila, Juanita Sanchez, Rosalba Sanchez, Elisa Garcia, Luvina Adams. She also leaves behind her many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Our loving mother Luvina was born on February 9, 1945, in Los Fresnos, Texas where she lived with her mother Leandra De los Santos, and her grandparents Julian and Beatriz De los Santos the first 5 to 8 years of her life. She did not meet her father Mateo Reyna who died before she was born.

As a child, she traveled with her family who worked as seasonal farmworkers in many states including Texas, California, Washington, and Ohio. She told us stories of how she didn’t like moving so much but they had to. It was their way of living and survival. She was a great storyteller and we loved to hear her talking to my grandmother and grandaunts about those days.

At the age of 19, she decided she wanted to start her own family. She longed for a home to call her own and she got it. This is where she could raise her 7 children. She was dedicated to her home and her children all of her life. Luvina was a multitasking mother that maintained a very tidy house and taught her children to do things with as close to perfection as possible. She was proud to teach us everything she knows about maintaining a spotless home and needless to say how to make all of her delicious Mexican recipes.

Our momma was a strong, strict woman that intimidated many people with her voice. Her stern voice could stop young and old in their tracks but she was also kind, loving, understanding, and forgiving. Those who knew her knew how much she loved beautiful flowers, dancing, dressing up for special occasions, accessorizing, her perfumes and lotions. But what really filled her heart was to see all of her daughters and family together.

Today, we collectively memorialize the legacy of the woman that made us the women we are today. Thank you mamacita for everything. You will be forever in our hearts.

We love you momma.

Rest in peace Doña Luvina Reyna-Sanchez.
