Marlin Channing Moore

Tribute

 

Marlin Channing Moore, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2020. Marlin was born January 2, 1930, in Doddridge County, West Virginia, the child of Harley Zackquill Moore and Thelma Aletha Davis Moore.

 He grew up in Smithburg, West Virginia. Marlin graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science with a major in Chemical Engineering.  Marlin also met his wife of 67 years, Gloria Kathleen Iaconis of Clarksburg, West Virginia, while they were both students at WVU. Marlin and Gloria spent their lives together in Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Niagara Falls, New York; Baytown, Texas; and in Old River Winfree, Texas.

Marlin was a US Army Veteran having served in the Korean War where he was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. He continued to serve as a Reserve Commissioned Officer of the Army for nine years. He retired from Dupont with 40.5 years of service. 

Marlin was preceded in death by his father, Harley Zackquill Moore, his mother, Thelma Aletha Davis Moore, his wife Gloria Kathleen Iaconis Moore, his sister Isabelle Fox, his brother, Robert Moore, his daughter, Monica Moore Daigle and his grandchildren, Loreece Lynn Pentecost and Levi Gray Carrell.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Marlene Boswell (Van) of Oklahoma, Melissa Sandoval (Danny) of Texas, Melinda Huffman (Paul) of Tennessee, Marsha Pentecost (Philip) of Texas and Marjorie Skains (Jeff) of Texas, and his sons Michael Moore of Texas and Matthew Moore (Susan) of Maryland. He also leaves behind 1 brother (Darrell Moore), 7 sisters (Eileen Spurgeon, Orma Yeater, Cathie Moore, Carolyn Cumpston, Marilyn Wright, Beth Wright, Ruby Carpenter), 30 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

The family will receive condolences on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 3515 Trinity Drive, Mont Belvieu, Texas 77580 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. The Rite of Committal and Interment will immediately follow the Mass at Sterling – White Cemetery (Garden of Honor), 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg Rd., Highlands, Texas 77562.

Memorials:  In lieu of flowers, Marlin wished that memorials be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church Building Fund, 3515 Trinity Drive, Mont Belvieu, Texas 77580.
