Tribute

Mary Kovalcik Michalsky

Mary was born October 27, 1925 in Stilson, Texas (a small community between Dayton and Crosby), to Emil and Mary Dlouhy Kovalcik.  She grew up on a farm in East Gate, Texas, with five siblings, brother Albert, and sisters Georgia, Rosie, Willie Mae, and Toni.  She went to work in Houston at the age of sixteen and held many different jobs from nanny to mustard packer.  She met the love of her life, Frank Michalsky, in December 1945 at a dance in Crosby, and they were married three months later.  They were blessed with four children: Jimmie, Beverly, Debbie, and Frankie.  She also raised her grandson, Kevin Michalsky.  Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and had a hand in raising them all.  In her spare time she loved to go fishing.  She and Frank spent every moment during retirement until he became ill fishing, gardening, and being together.  She also crocheted countless blankets, dolls, and bedspreads for loved ones.  In her later years, she loved going to the casino to play slots and always came home with her winnings.  She enjoyed attending Crosby United Methodist Church.  When asked how she made it through so many losses of loved ones, she replied, “Talk to God every day.  He will see you through.”

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank Michalsky, daughter Beverly Michalsky Yelverton, son Frankie Michalsky, son in law Clyde Yelverton, brother Albert Kovalcik, and sisters Willie Mae McMahon and Toni McMahon.  She is survived by her son Jimmie Michalsky and wife Margie, her daughter Debbie Foster and husband Randy, grandson and caregiver Kevin Michalsky along with 11 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, sisters Georgia Snider and Rosie Smith, sisters in law Annie Michalsky, Naomi Michalsky, and Anna Mae Jasek, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
