Tribute

Nelda Joyce Holleman, 88, of Highlands, Texas, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2020. She was born at home in Caradan, Texas on July 28, 1931 to Viola Jane Harris Crawford and Norman Thomas Crawford. Nelda lived in Caradan through the first grade, at age 6. In 1937, the family along with two younger brothers, Glenn Ray and Norman Carroll moved to a government farm in Goose Creek, Texas, on Garth Road, which is now called Baytown. She attended elementary and junior high at Cedar Bayou and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1948. Nelda met the love of her life William Clinton Holleman on a Sunday night at church and then a year later they were married on December 16th, 1950. In their retirement years, they became full time RV’rs for six years and traveled to many places. She was an avid reader and a member of the Highlands Book Review Club. Tending to her garden, planting vegetables, and yardwork is what she really enjoyed. Nelda had an outgoing personality and a good sense of humor that will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Holleman; parents, Norman and Viola Crawford; son, Dan Lee Holleman; grandson, Michael Bland; brothers, Glen Ray Crawford and Norman Carroll Crawford; former sister-in-law, Lina Sue Philo; sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws, Virginia Holleman, Marian and Jimmie Holleman, Jan and Robert Holleman; and her favorite aunt that was like a mother to her, May Redden.

Nelda is survived by her children, Susan O’neal and husband William, and William Kraig Holleman; grandchildren, Carrie Bland Cuevas and husband Chuck, and Matthew Bland; great-grandchildren, Ian Cuevas, Hailie Ellis, Jillian Cuevas, Tanner Cuevas, and Daphne Cuevas; sister-in-law, Patsy Crawford; cousins, Ollie and Jack Matthews, and a host of extended family and friends.

The family would like to say “Thank You” to the staff at ADL Assisted Living in Highlands, especially to Mrs. Virginia, Donna and Devyn, and Ruth from Faith Hospice for all their loving care.

Services and a graveside will be privately held and are under the care of Sterling-White Funeral Home, 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg Rd., Highlands Texas.
