Roy Curtis Sherman

Tribute

Roy Curtis Sherman was born to William Floyd and Sylva Mae Sherman in Mexia, Texas on August 27, 1926. He departed this life at the age of 96 on Wednesday May 31, 2023. A viewing for family and friends will be held June 8 from 5-8pm. Funeral service will be held June 9 at 10am. There will be a short graveside service following at the Sterling-White cemetery pavilion behind the funeral home.  Sterling-White is located at 1011 Crosby-Lynchburg Road, Highlands, Texas.

Roy graduated Van High School in 1943. After graduating he attended East Texas Teachers College in Commerce Texas on a Music Scholarship. He worked in the oil industry his entire career. Working on drilling rigs throwing a chain connecting drill pipe was his first position, later working at the gas plant in the Van area. He worked as an operator for Hunt oil in Alvin, assistant superintendent at Refugio, and superintendent in Tioga, North Dakota. Roy retired from Exxon Chemical Plant in Baytown, Texas.

Hunting, fishing, and member of the Church of Christ were his interests. He hunted pheasants in the Dakotas and deer in Texas and ran trotlines in Lake Livingston. He almost always had a project going for the church.

Roy was married to Pat Watts in 1946. They had two sons: Terry born in 1948(deceased) and Tommy in 1953. Pat went home to heaven in 1977. Roy married Lillian Woods in 1980 and gained a wonderful loving family through her daughter Madeline and her husband Pete Zafereo which included their two children and grandchildren. Lillian went to be home with the Lord in 2017. Roy loved both Pat and Lillian dearly.

Roy lived with his son Tommy and his wife Janet the last few years in Huntsville, Texas.

Roy was always kind hearted and even tempered, liked by all. He was never afraid of work and never knew how to say no when his help was needed.

He is survived by his Son Tommy and Janet Sherman, Daughter Madeline and Pete Zafereo, Grandchildren: Jennifer and Scott Swafford, Patrick and Sylva Sherman, Daniel and Melissa Sherman, Jessica and Chase Johnson, Patricia Sherman, Teresa Chambers, Careen and Douglas Howard, Paul and Jessica Zafereo, Also Great Grandchildren: Andrew and Joseph Swafford, William Sherman, Theodore and Amalee Sherman, Knox and Drake Johnson, Dillon Chambers, Kayla and Sadie Howard, Zaine and Alexis Zafereo,

Preceded in death by: brothers Kirk, Aj, and Walter Sherman, son Terry Sherman
