Tribute

Virginia Ruth Johnston Findlay, 86, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away February 10, 2024, in Baytown, Texas. She was born on September 11, 1937, in Baytown to Hugh Blair Johnston and Myrza Lee Terry Johnston.  Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, William Richard Findlay, sister, Patricia Ann Johnston Lamb, and son-in-law, William Britain Quartz.

Virginia is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Vicky Lynn Page and husband, Blake, of La Porte; Dianna Kay Knowlton and husband, Dirk, of La Porte; Pamela Gay Quartz of Baytown; and Kimberly Reneé Glaize and husband, David, of Baytown. She has eight grandchildren, Wendy Lynn Page Shannon, Richard Blake Page, Dayna Knowlton Morara, Tech Sgt. Daniel Levi Knowlton, USAF, William Blair Quartz, Bryce Michael Quartz, Jacob Ryan Cano, and Samantha Reneé Glaize. Virginia was blessed with 14 great-grandchildren. She is survived by two siblings, Kathy LaVergne and husband Medwyn of Winnie, Hugh B. “Butch” Johnston and wife, Virginia, of Cypress.  She has numerous nieces and nephews.

Virginia attended Deer Park High School. She married the love of her life, William (Billy) Findlay, on November 10, 1952. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2002 in Hawaii where they renewed their marriage vows.

Virginia was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, and later, St. Mark’s Methodist Church.  She loved being on the open lake, fishing and traveling as much as she could throughout her life. She was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and showed her love time and again by cooking the best meals and hosting wonderful Christmas celebrations at her home in Lakewood.

The family is thankful for the care given to Virginia by Dr. Kamran Khan, Dr. Saeed Kahkeshani, Unity Hospice, and caretakers Bessie White and Tiffany Zuniga who helped take care of her in her final days.  Also, Jessie Garcia, Tamika Chase, Diana Williams, Mary Lou, Lori, and Tai, and many others at the Lodge at Pine Creek.

A visitation will be held at St. Mark’s Methodist Church, 3811 N. Main in Baytown, on February 15, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation with Virginia’s niece, Deana Findlay Ball, officiating, and graveside service will follow at Sterling-White Cemetery, 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg in Highlands.

Serving as pallbearers are great grandsons Brayen Quartz, Connor Page, Grant Mize, Jared Mize, Hudson Page, Braicen Quartz, and nephews, David Findlay, Jr. and Ross Johnston.
