Virginia Lee Woods

On June 9, 2022, Virginia Lee Edwards Woods, 82 of Highlands, Texas, passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving children. Virginia "Jennye" was born May 17, 1940, in Sweetwater, TX, to James and Evelyn Edwards.

After graduating Baylor University in 1962, Virginia married her high school sweetheart, Carl R “Dickie” Woods, and moved to Houston. She spent the next six decades raising family, building businesses, teaching, being an active member in multiple gardening organizations, creating floral designs and traveling the world. Virginia worked as a law clerk, then a journalist, before becoming a mother. As a mother she was room-mom and chaperone on many school trips and number one fan for her children and grandchildren alike. She was an avid collector of curiosities and had various shops around Kingwood and Baytown, specializing in antiques, jewelry and collectibles. Virginia was a master design judge for the National Garden Clubs and was invited to present in seminars and judge shows all over the state and the world, from Tokyo to Sao Paolo and Panama, Johannesburg, and Cusco. She also travelled for pleasure, reaching most continents and many exotic destinations. Her latest world travels took her to the jungles of Costa Rica and the pyramids of Egypt.

She is survived by her three children, Jennifer Woods-McCann, Jessica Woods, Dickson and his wife JoEllen Woods. Her grandchildren are Kenneth Michael McCann III, EmmaLee Lopez, Logan Lopez, Sarah Woods and Hunter Woods. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Floyd Woods, sisters-in-law Estelle Councilman and Ann Edwards, nieces; Lisa Taylor, Shelle Bullard, Lynette Palafox, Angela Smittle, Amy Edwards and Andrea Edwards, and nephews; Kelle Councilman, Randy Councilman, and Ryan Councilman.

Virginia is preceded in death by her husband and love of her life C. R. "Dickie" Woods, her parents Jimmy and Evelyn Edwards, her brother David Edwards, and her aunt Sue Perry.

The family will receive guests for a time of visitation at Sterling-White Funeral Home, 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg Rd. Highlands, TX 77562.
